Chapter 31
Jon jumps out of the chair at Derrick for telling him that making arrangements for Jackie to be moved, he jumps up so quickly the back of his leg hits the chair, the chair falls backwards with a loud thud that wakes Jackie up and startles her, and she starts to scream. Jon rushes to the bed and begins talking softly to her to get her calm, "It’s ok, I’m here I just knocked the chair over. Everything is ok shh.” He kept talking to her till she calmed down. She calmed down then in the strongest voice she could muster she says to Jon, “Get your hands off me I don’t want people touching me!” Jon looked at Derrick and then at Jackie in total shock. Derrick moves his head in a slight movement to talk to Jon with out Jackie hearing.
“Jon don’t take offense to what she is saying right now, you need to remember she has been through living hell this is the beginning of PTSD I have seen it in other agents.” Derrick says in a low voice. Jon looks at him and says, “Why wouldn’t she want me to touch her I’m not the one who hurt her?”
“We don’t know all that she has been through, Josh hasn’t told us everything that happened we may never know until Jackie tells us. We need to be patient this could be just because she was startled.” Jon thinks about what Derrick said for a minute, and then says, “I see what your saying we did scare her I’m sure that’s all this is.” Jon said a little hesitantly. He walks back towards Jackie and stops at the side of the bed and asks her if she needed anything. She asked for Ice chips, Derrick went to get them. Jon sat on the side of the bed and looked at the women he loved and he asked her if he could hold her hand trying not to scare her. He waited then watched her lift her hand towards his. Jon gently takes it into his hand and starts to rub his thumb across it. He starts telling her about the kids, how much they missed her and want to come see her.
Jackie pulls her hand away so fast she nearly cried out in pain and then tries to scooch up in her bed and looked at Jon and says, “They can’t know I’m alive please don’t tell them!” She said in a panicked voice. “Jon they can’t know they could get hurt or worse they can’t know!” She said in a hurried voice that left her breathless.
“Sweetness nothing is going to happen to them they know your alive but they don’t know where you are, as far as the world knows your dead if that’s what it takes to keep you alive we will do it. When we get you home I’ll feel much better.” He said to her.
Jackie looks at him, not knowing how to tell him she won’t be going anywhere with him. She decided to tell it like it was. “Jon I’m not coming home with you, I’m a danger to you and your family as long as I’m alive and the ones who are the head of the human trafficking ring are still free I need to stay in hiding.” Looking at Jon as he let what she said sink in.
“I can keep you safe I don’t want to be a part from you for a minute.” He said in an almost desperate voice.She reached out for his hand and he noticed her hesitation but slowly followed through with taking his hand in hers. “I know you could but I don’t want to put you all in danger. Top priority is getting those low life’s off the streets so they can’t hurt or kill anyone else.” She said with a lot of conviction in her voice, Jon was taken aback for a second.
“I understand that but I don’t want to be a part from you any longer.” He said in a chocking voice.
“Ok let me give you an example, When your on tour and I’m working we won’t be together then what makes this different? Besides the fact that I could come to you or you could come to me. The point is I don’t want anything to happen to anyone in your family because of me.” She said as a tear rolled down her face, Jon reaches to wipe it and sees her wince at his hand getting closer to her face, he pulls it back and says in a chocked voice, “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to scare you.” He stammered the last word coming out of his mouth.
Just then the door slid open and the curtain pulled back and a man walked in with papers in his hands and wearing rimmed glasses on his face and reading as he walked towards the bed he stopped without saying a word. He continues his reading then looks up at the two people before him.
“Good Morning I’m Dr. Khan I’ll be taking over your care while Dr. Shelton recovers.” He said in a low confident voice. “I have been going over your chart and talking to Rocky and Stella about your healing as it coming along nicely.” He said as he glanced at her chart. He then looked at the two people looking at him with out saying anything. After a long pause the Dr. says, “Any questions?”
“How long will I have to stay here?” Jackie asks looking at the Dr.
The Dr. ignored her question and walked to the opposite side of the bed from Jon.
“I need to do a through exam, so sir I need you to step out.” He said looking at Jon
“I’m not going anywhere.”Jon says as he crosses his arms across his chest as if making a stance to show he’s not moving.
“Sir I insist that you step out.” The Dr. said in a firm voice.
“All due respect Dr. I’m not leaving her you can examine her while I’m in the room.” Jon said in a firm voice while giving him the stink eye. The Dr. looks at Jon who was opening his mouth, Jackie speaks up and says in a firm voice, “He stays or you won’t touch me.”
The Dr. was not happy with the way things are going here “Fine!” Shacking his head “Then stay out of my way!” He said in an angry voice. "You don't want to get in my way during patient care do I make myself clear?" He said glaring at Jon for a brief second. He then turn his attention to the women in the bed. While thinking to himself How am I going to get the job done with him the room?

While thinking to himself How am I going to get the job done with him the room?
