chapter 27
Jackie runs to Toby and falls to her knees at Toby's side and rolls him on his side as Jon calls 911, Jake and Romeo come running down the hall when they heard the shout they yell "What's going on?" They look at what is happening and are scared.
Jackie looks at the boys quickly and says in a hurried voice, "Go in my room and grab the file in my top drawer then go in my closet and grab the small black bag hanging on the hook please and hurry!" The boys take off and then Jon is at Jackie's side and says as he gets on the floor beside her, "They are sending an ambulance they should be here soon." The boys come running back from Jackie's room with the bag and the file."Hand me the bag please." Jake hands the bag to Jackie and watches as she opens it and she pulls out a syringe and a vile she inserts the needle and pulls back the plunger the for right dose pulls the needle out and then she grabs a small package of alcohol wipes opens it then wipes a spot on Toby and inserts the needle. She takes the needle out of Toby then puts a cap on it pulls out a baggy marked hazardous waste to put the syringe in and seals it shut puts it in her bag till she gets home to dispose of it properly.
"What was that you gave him?" Jon asks with worry in his voice as he stands to walk to the door since he hears the knock on it. Before she can answer him in comes the EMT's with a stretcher. They get to where Toby is and Jackie stands to move out of the way as one asks her questions like what happened and when it happened. Jackie gives them the run down of his medical history and what she gave him and how much, they insert an IV then put him on the stretcher as one of them asks "Do you want to ride with him?" "YES!" Jackie says as she looks at Jon and then at Toby, she goes over to Jake and Romeo, and says "He has done this before I always get him checked out please don't worry." She hugs them. She walks over to Jon, kisses him as he pulls her into a hug and says, "We are right behind you do you need us to bring anything?" "Yes can you get his bear and blanket please?" She asks as she watches them take Toby out the door she grabs the bag and file and follows the EMT's with Toby.
Jon walks towards Toby's room to get the things needed when he hears "Please grab my purse it has Toby's insurance card!" Jon complies with the request.
"Jake, Romeo get dressed we are going to the hospital!" Jon yells to the boys from Jackie's room.
"Ok Dad!" he hears yelled back at him in unison. Jon is a nervous wreck he's never seen Toby have a seizure before, it was the scariest thing he has witnessed to someone he loved, he was amazed at how calm Jackie was, she knew just what to do and keep her cool, thinking it must be her training be calm in a stressful conditions or she had this happen before and knew what to do, it didn't matter Toby was going to get the medical care he needed no matter the cost Jon thinks to himself. When he gets back to town he's going to search for the best Dr. he can find.
"Boys lets go!" He bellows a little gruffer than attended, but the boys came running as Jon finishes putting the things he needed for Jackie in a bag and they hurried out the door to the car.
20 minutes later the ambulance pulls into the ER at the local hospital, the EMT's unload Toby who is finally more alert. Jackie walks behind the EMT's who were taking Toby in through the doors of the ER, a nurse walks up to them a quick manner starts asking questions to the EMT's as they give their report then introduce her to Jackie. Jackie tells the nurse a quick history then hands her the medical records, watches as she reads through them, the waiting was killing her then the nurse says, "Your very through this is rare." She says with a slight smile as she says "You have been through this before I can tell your calm and ready, as much as I'm glad your ready but I know your worried he's in good hands with you and this hospital." The nurse who's name was Cathy says to her, "I'm going to get another set of vitals and hook him up to the heart monitor which I'm sure your use too this as you know. This could be just an adjustment to his meds but I'm just the RN." She said with a smile as she walked to Jackie and grabbed her hand and padded her hand to comfort her, then walks back to Toby and goes about her job. As Jackie waits for the nurse Cathy does her job she hears "Jackie? Jackie where are you?" "I'm in here!" She says loudly as she walks to the door and pulls back the curtain as she she see Jon and the boys walking towards her. "How is he?" Jon asks with a concerned voice walking to her and hugging her then kisses her on the forehead
"Cathy the nurse is doing vitals and hooking him up to the heart monitor, we just go here you must have been flying to get her so quickly." She said with a look of concern to Jon.
"Hi I'm Cathy, I'll be taking care of Toby while he's here." She said, as she walked towards Jon with her hand out and then says, "Don't worry about him he's in good hands here."
"Thank you Cathy. " Jon says and then asks, "When will the Dr. be in to see him please take no offence I just want the best for this little guy he's very important to us."
"Mr. Bongiovi I'm not offended but I have a job to do and that is to get him ready for the Dr. that way I can give the Dr. a full report so he knows what course of action to take, no disrespect here I'm as through as you are when your putting on a show all the T's crossed and the I's dotted." She said with a confident smile.
"Touche." Jon says with a smile.
"Wow Rock Star you have been stopped in your tracks I love it. " Jackie says with a small smile.
"Jake, Romeo why don't you sit beside Toby he's sleeping but when he wakes up he will be happy to see you." Jackie said in a gentle voice, the boys looked at Jackie with a hesitant look on their face. Jackie reassures them with a hug and then says, "He's going to be fine if anything happens to him they will let us know plus I would rather have them check him out to be sure after each seizure to make sure he's fine. It isn't necessary but I do it anyway so don't worry Ok guys be strong for him he will be sad when he wakes up he will think he's ruined our trip don't let him feel that way ok can you do that for me?" Jackie asks.
The boys look at Toby then at their Dad and then at Jackie and Jake says "Jackie don't worry we got this we are strong." Romeo nodded in agreement.
Jackie looks at Jon, Jon looks at Jackie with a smile and he hugs her from the side and says "That's my boys for ya."
Jackie kind of giggles as Cathy walks towards her and then says " Toby's vitals looks perfect his heart rate is a bit elevated which as you know is normal but will settle down once the Ativan fully kicks in. We may have to give a second dose since your script is lower than what we use here but that is normal we will give it about 30 more minutes before we do that. Do you have any questions?"
"I know your busy here but how soon will the Dr. be here? Do you think an MRI will be ordered that is what the last visit did which I'm sure you read. Yes I know I'm over cautious with him but I know his time is limited with us and I just want him to be comfortable." Jackie tells Cathy.
Cathy looks at her with a kind smile and says, " I know your worried or you wouldn't be here, I know I skimmed the reports you gave me and the Dr. will read them more thoroughly I can't say what they will do but you seem to know what is going to happen I'm sorry about that, I can tell you love him very much, I see a lot here most not good but I can see love in this room not just by you but by those boys and the man at your side, that is the best medicine." She said looking at Jackie then Jon and then back to the boys. Then she said, "Ok let me get this to the Dr. on call I'm not sure of the case load for the night but we are a little busy so it may be a while, the cafeteria is on the 2nd floor if you need coffee go to the ICU on the 3rd floor they have the best." She told them and then walked out of the room.
The wait seemed to be unbearable for them all. Toby had woke up a little not too much and he mumbled something and then fell back to sleep. Jake and Romeo took turns talking to him. Jon just held Jackie's hand to give her the support she needed. Jackie didn't want to let go she was so thankful, she didn't normally have this kind of support when Toby had his seizures. She then looked at Jon and said, "Thank you so much for being here with us." Jon looking at her with such worry in her eyes he hated seeing that, "I love you where else would I be and besides I love Toby and I'll be here when ever you or he needs me got that?" He said in a firm but loving voice. He then leans in and kisses her on the lips gently as they hear "ewww" then giggles. They look toward the bed and see all three boys looking at them with big smiles on their faces. "I guess we got caught." Jon says with a smile as he looked at the boys then to Jackie as she smiles back at him and says, "Yes we did." looking at the boys, seeing Toby sitting up with a smile gave her a great relief.
"Mama? Why am I in the hospital? Did I get sick again?" Toby asked.
"Yes baby you did." She said as she got up and walked towards him with a smile on her face. She gets to his side and sits on the bed and pulls him into a hug and in his ear she says, "I love you Toby I'll protect you and keep you healthy as long as I can." Holding him close and kisses his head Toby says to her, "I love you Mama I know you will." She pulls back looking at him he's smiling at her she smiles back, his smile warms her heart this was a mild one she can tell but won't take any chances. Just then the Dr. walks in.
"Hello I'm Dr. Kline." The middle aged man walked in the room looking at Toby then the "parents" offering his hand to Jon then Jackie then walks to Toby, Jake and Romeo move away from the bed quickly as Jackie walks quickly to the opposite of the bed of the Dr.
The Dr. starts to speak to Toby first, "Hello young man how are you feeling?" The Dr. holds a hand out to Toby, Toby looks at it then to Jackie she nods and he takes the Dr.'s hand and shakes it, then says, "I have a headache." Looking at the Dr. with big scared eyes. The Dr. looks back at him and smiles, "I'm sure you do I can have the nurse get you something for your head ache if you want." The Dr. says to Toby in a soft voice then continues to say "I need to listen to your lungs ok? When I'm done you can listen to mine would you like that?"
Toby bobbing his head up and down with a smile then asks, "Can I listen to Jake and Romeo's too please?"
"Of course you can." He says as he takes his stethoscope from his pocket and puts it around his neck then pulls up the round end and huffs on it to warm it up then puts the ear piece in and says, "Ok take some deep breaths for me." Toby does what he's told as the Dr. listened to his lungs front and back. He takes off the ear piece and goes and cleans the ends and hands it to Toby, Toby puts it in his ears and the Dr. sits on the bed so he can reach him Toby says, "Ok take some deep breaths for me." Jon and Jackie giggle at him by this time Jon was at Jackie's side he looked at Jackie seeing relief on her face helped him feel more relieved and relaxed. Jon watches Toby listen to the Dr.'s lungs then call Jake and Romeo over and listen to theirs, while that was going on the Dr. had walked around the bed where Jackie and Jon were standing and he then says, "I would like to do an MRI on him just to check the tumor if that's ok with you?"
"Yes its fine I want to be sure he is ok we are on vacation not the way we want to spend it." Jackie tells the Dr. and he then says. "Ok I'll send the nurse in with the consent form and I'll write up the order for it."
"Do you have a time frame when the MRI will be done?" Jon asks.
"It shouldn't be to long we are not to busy tonight." Dr. Kline says as he turns to walk away he stops at the door and says. "Try and relax he looks good his vitals are stable." The Dr. walked out the door and they were alone again.
"Relax do you know how many times I have heard that I want to slap the person who says it!" Jackie said with a nervous giggle. Jon puts his arm around her and says "I'm glad I can be here with you to help you give you support, You amazed me with how calm you were I would have freaked out." Jon said with an awkward laugh. Jackie looked at him and laughed at his goofy laugh and play slapped him. "Hey what was that for?" He said with pretend shock and laughed.
"It is nice to share this with someone, I get scared every time not knowing if this was going to be the time I don't bring him home, I want to bring him home to my home to be my forever son before the end he deserves that." She said with a sniff and a tear slipped out of one eye, Jon wiped it with his finger and then pulled her into an embrace and just held her saying a silent prayer for them both.
Hearing the boys laugh taking turns listening to their lungs and heartbeat with the Dr. Kline's stethoscope.
The MRI was done and Toby was discharged from the hospital no changes in his scan no changes to his med list. Every one was relived he was ok back to the bungalow they went. Got the kids tucked back in bed again. Jon went to get Jackie and found her laying across her bed crying.
"Hey are you ok?" Jon asks as he sits on the bed rubbing her back.
"Yes I'm just relieved and this is a stress reliever." She said as she wiped the tears off her cheeks then turned slightly to be able to look at Jon and said "Thank you for being there with me you being there gave me the strength I needed." She raised a hand to his cheek and then asked "I know you haven't have much time to think about what I told you tonight do you have any thoughts or questions?"
"Well you're a secret agent was the last thing I expected you to say, your right I haven't had much time to think about it as for questions I have a lot of them and I'm sure most you won't or can't answer, but I'd like to know why the FBI?" He asked as he reached for her hand to hold it.
"Well I have always loved puzzles and crimes are like big puzzles following the clues to put the picture together to get the perp, the bad guy." She tells him as she sits up to move beside him. "How do you feel about my job? Is it something you can live with? There will be times when I have to disappear not be able to answer the phone?" She asked him looking at him to see his reaction to what she had to say.
"Well" He says as he stops talking and then says, "Well there are times like that for me too mainly when I'm on tour." He said as he turned to look at her.
"Well at least we have a work thing in common." She said with a slight smile then asked him, "Can you deal with my job when I have to be nice to other men to get the info I need?"
"What do you mean nice?" He asked.
"Well like the job I'm on now I have to cozy up to the person of interest and no I don't sleep with them I draw the line at that." She told him a bit to firmly. "I'm sorry that came out a bit rougher than intended forgive me please." She said looking at him with remorse in her voice.
"Hey its ok I can tell you needed to get a point across." He said putting his arm around her and pulled her close to him. He then say's "About tonight the way I acted I was hurt when you didn't tell me you loved me when I said it to you, I understand now that you explained I think I over reacted a bit and I'm sorry for the way I acted."
She reached her hand up to his neck and pulled him close to her and she kissed him on the cheek and then said "All is forgiven all is out in the open I know you will keep my secret."
"With out a doubt you have my word on it." He told her as he looked at her.
"I knew you would say that your a good person to keep secrets after all your the Rock Star." She said smiling at him.
He laughed and shook his head then said, "If your going to call names yours is Secret Agent."
"OMG!!" She said being dramatic as they laughed together. Jon stood up in front of her held out his hand "Come on lets have a glass of wine before we go to bed." He said as she stood up grabbed his hand and they walked into the kitchen. She watched Jon poor the wine, handed her a glass and asked. "Shall we sit on the deck and enjoy the breeze?"
"Sounds perfect but let me take a quick peek on Toby." She said as she set her glass down.
"Ok I"ll take your glass and meet you on the deck." Jon said as she walked out of the kitchen.
A few minutes later she was back and saw Jon sitting in a chair just like earlier with his feet propped up on the railing taking a drink of his wine.
"You look comfy." She said with a smile as she walked towards him.
Patting the chair beside him, "Get your butt over here women I want to hold your hand while we drink wine and enjoy this beautiful night even if its 2 a.m." He said watching her walk towards him.
She walks to him and sits in the chair beside him, he hands her her wine they sip on their wine and talk till the glasses were empty they put the glasses in the sink, Jon walks her to her room kisses her good night holds her close for a long minute then whispers "I love you see you when you wake up."
"I love you too see you when you wake up Rock Star." She said smiling.
Jon is woken up by knocking on the door then a voice saying "Hey Jon breakfast is ready."
"Give me a few I'll be there." He gets up goes into the bathroom and freshens up then heads out to the kitchen. While walking down the hall his phone rings he looks at it and it is Dr. Shelton. "Hello?" Jon says into the phone as he stopped walking to take the call.
"Good Morning Jon I know your still with Derrick I just wanted to let you know Jackie is awake and groggy but awake and shes asking for you." The Dr. says to him with a smile on his face.
"I'm on my way!" Jon says with a huge smile on his face. Jon turns back around and heads back to his room packs up his computer and chargers heads to the kitchen to tell Derrick and Savannah.

Jon puts his arm around her and says "I'm glad I can be here with you to help you give you support, You amazed me with how calm you were I would have freaked out." Jon said with an awkward laugh. Jackie looked at him and laughed at his goofy laugh and play slapped him. "Hey what was that for?" He said with pretend shock and laughed.
"It is nice to share this with someone, I get scared every time not knowing if this was going to be the time I don't bring him home, I want to bring him home to my home to be my forever son before the end he deserves that." She said with a sniff and a tear slipped out of one eye, Jon wiped it with his finger and then pulled her into an embrace and just held her saying a silent prayer for them both.
Hearing the boys laugh taking turns listening to their lungs and heartbeat with the Dr. Kline's stethoscope.
The MRI was done and Toby was discharged from the hospital no changes in his scan no changes to his med list. Every one was relived he was ok back to the bungalow they went. Got the kids tucked back in bed again. Jon went to get Jackie and found her laying across her bed crying.
"Hey are you ok?" Jon asks as he sits on the bed rubbing her back.
"Yes I'm just relieved and this is a stress reliever." She said as she wiped the tears off her cheeks then turned slightly to be able to look at Jon and said "Thank you for being there with me you being there gave me the strength I needed." She raised a hand to his cheek and then asked "I know you haven't have much time to think about what I told you tonight do you have any thoughts or questions?"
"Well you're a secret agent was the last thing I expected you to say, your right I haven't had much time to think about it as for questions I have a lot of them and I'm sure most you won't or can't answer, but I'd like to know why the FBI?" He asked as he reached for her hand to hold it.
"Well I have always loved puzzles and crimes are like big puzzles following the clues to put the picture together to get the perp, the bad guy." She tells him as she sits up to move beside him. "How do you feel about my job? Is it something you can live with? There will be times when I have to disappear not be able to answer the phone?" She asked him looking at him to see his reaction to what she had to say.
"Well" He says as he stops talking and then says, "Well there are times like that for me too mainly when I'm on tour." He said as he turned to look at her.
"Well at least we have a work thing in common." She said with a slight smile then asked him, "Can you deal with my job when I have to be nice to other men to get the info I need?"
"What do you mean nice?" He asked.
"Well like the job I'm on now I have to cozy up to the person of interest and no I don't sleep with them I draw the line at that." She told him a bit to firmly. "I'm sorry that came out a bit rougher than intended forgive me please." She said looking at him with remorse in her voice.
"Hey its ok I can tell you needed to get a point across." He said putting his arm around her and pulled her close to him. He then say's "About tonight the way I acted I was hurt when you didn't tell me you loved me when I said it to you, I understand now that you explained I think I over reacted a bit and I'm sorry for the way I acted."
She reached her hand up to his neck and pulled him close to her and she kissed him on the cheek and then said "All is forgiven all is out in the open I know you will keep my secret."
"With out a doubt you have my word on it." He told her as he looked at her.
"I knew you would say that your a good person to keep secrets after all your the Rock Star." She said smiling at him.
He laughed and shook his head then said, "If your going to call names yours is Secret Agent."
"OMG!!" She said being dramatic as they laughed together. Jon stood up in front of her held out his hand "Come on lets have a glass of wine before we go to bed." He said as she stood up grabbed his hand and they walked into the kitchen. She watched Jon poor the wine, handed her a glass and asked. "Shall we sit on the deck and enjoy the breeze?"
"Sounds perfect but let me take a quick peek on Toby." She said as she set her glass down.
"Ok I"ll take your glass and meet you on the deck." Jon said as she walked out of the kitchen.
A few minutes later she was back and saw Jon sitting in a chair just like earlier with his feet propped up on the railing taking a drink of his wine.
"You look comfy." She said with a smile as she walked towards him.
Patting the chair beside him, "Get your butt over here women I want to hold your hand while we drink wine and enjoy this beautiful night even if its 2 a.m." He said watching her walk towards him.
She walks to him and sits in the chair beside him, he hands her her wine they sip on their wine and talk till the glasses were empty they put the glasses in the sink, Jon walks her to her room kisses her good night holds her close for a long minute then whispers "I love you see you when you wake up."
"I love you too see you when you wake up Rock Star." She said smiling.
Jon is woken up by knocking on the door then a voice saying "Hey Jon breakfast is ready."
"Give me a few I'll be there." He gets up goes into the bathroom and freshens up then heads out to the kitchen. While walking down the hall his phone rings he looks at it and it is Dr. Shelton. "Hello?" Jon says into the phone as he stopped walking to take the call.
"Good Morning Jon I know your still with Derrick I just wanted to let you know Jackie is awake and groggy but awake and shes asking for you." The Dr. says to him with a smile on his face.
"I'm on my way!" Jon says with a huge smile on his face. Jon turns back around and heads back to his room packs up his computer and chargers heads to the kitchen to tell Derrick and Savannah.
